To attain international recognition and credibility the Government Chemist Department has started the process of ISO: 17025 accreditation where all the staff members have undergone initial training. The training was done by a consultant firm namely Contis Ltd  where all members of staff undertook a 3-day training on Requirements of ISO 17025 and Laboratory Accreditation to all members of staff at Government chemist.

The training were led by  Eng. Zachariah Nyakoe who holds many Professional Memberships in UK and Kenya. He has excellent working knowledge of laboratory Quality Management System (QMS) and accreditation requirements having worked with KEBS for over 22 years, 8 years, with Organisation for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in Netherlands and 8 years with UNICEF in Denmark as a Quality Assurance Manager. 

The Team Leader has hands on experience of guiding over 20 laboratories worldwide including that of OPCW laboratory to obtain accreditation to ISO 17025 within a set period and budget as well as certification to ISO 9001 and other applicable national and international standards
